Colt Lyerla  6' 5" 225 lbs. TE/DE 2011

Lyerla is a fun prospect to watch and an interesting one to try and label position wise at the college level. He has good listed size with the frame to add more good bulk with time in a college weight program. He plays several positions in high school from running back to linebacker to kick returner and you like what you see from him at all spots. At running back he gives a little bit of that Toby Gerhart vibe the former Stanford back as Lyerla has good size and a bruising running style. He has good straight-line speed and does a good job of quickly finding the hole, getting his shoulders square, and getting downhill. He is not the most elusive back, but has nice lateral quickness to avoid defenders in short spaces and make people miss. He also has good hands and

you could see him fitting in an H-Back type role in college where you can move him around and take advantage of some of his different skills. He is also not a bad blocker as he will be physical. While he seems to focus on offense his size and skill could very likely land him on defense in college as a linebacker or possibly defensive end depending on physical development. You like his ability to be able to transition to linebacker in college as he shows good range. He does a good job of being able to come up and take on blockers, but will need to keep working to use his hands to more of his advantage. Displays the ability to side-step blocks and is a solid tackler though he needs to be sure to keep his head up. He has the burst to pressure as a blitzer, but will need to be sure to develop the use of his weapons to be able to work around blockers. Lyerla is a good athlete and a kid you just want to get on campus and figure out what to do with him after that.
