Jared Johnston is a true dual-threat QB who is an excellent athlete and a much better passer than most "athlete" quarterbacks are at this stage. As a runner, he is quick and explosive and able to create on his own when things break down. As an athlete, he is more quick and explosive than he is fast. Plays in an offense that utilizes his tools very well. Shows good patience as a passer, he sets up quickly and does a nice job going through progressions. Is at his best when he is on time in the short, controlled passing game and can get into a rhythm. When he gets hot, he can be tough

to handle. Release mechanics are good, very consistent, his delivery is relatively quick and the ball jumps off his hand. He carries the ball tight and close to his chest. Has a good arm. Can make most throws. Vertical passing skills are excellent. Where Jared is dangerous is in the pocket on pass plays because he has such good escapability and change-of-direction skills that even if you think you've got him, he'll escape and get outside the pocket and is a good enough passer on the move to make you defend the run/pass option. He is very elusive and can stop and start with little to no wasted motion. Overall, Jared has upside as a quarterback in the right system or at any skilled position on the field.
