Matthew Hofmann possesses all the physical tools you look for in a cornerback prospect. He is 5’ 11’ with good muscle tone; frame to still pack on some lean bulk and play in college at a fluid 190-pounds. Added size will compliment his aggressive style of play. Aside from being a quick-footed cover guy -- this kid will come up and stone ball carriers on underneath run and pass support. Transitions very quickly out of his pedal and flashes strong plant and drive skill; good skills in reading the quarterback eyes and undercutting routes. Great open field tackler who mirrors well in space and utilizes his upper-body strength to consistently run through his tackles.

Aside from showing the good closing speed, range, underneath route awareness and physicality needed to make an impact as hard, "Cover 2" corner; he possesses the loose hips, tight waist and quickness needed to mirror as a cover corner and the speed to turn and run and stick to the hip. Great deep ball defender; soundly tracks the ball while it is in the air, utilizes his size well for positioning and shows the timing and leaping ability to pluck away most jump balls. Hand positioning and leverage technique could use polish. With that said, Matthew can cover, close and hit as good as the top-tier of cornerbacks in this class. Matthew is also an above average special teams player as well, should provide his future defensive coordinator with great scheme versatility. Could continue to physically develop into a fine safety at the next level as well.
